Cycle in support of patient care at RVH on Sunday, September 26, 2021 and register for the annual Tour de T1D. This is not a race, but instead a chance for cyclists from all over Ontario to take in a scenic 25 km, 50 km, or 100 km bike ride through the picturesque, rolling hills of Horseshoe Valley in support of an important cause.

Funds raised will benefit the RVH Youth Diabetic Clinic, where close to 200 children receive care annually. Type 1 diabetes is a complex and lifelong autoimmune condition that affects one out of every three hundred children in Canada.

Incidences of type 1 diabetes are rising by approximately three percent every year, and the dedicated team at the RVH Youth Diabetic Clinic devote themselves to developing opportunities for children, youth, and families to connect, receive support and learn about diabetes while focusing on their overall well-being. Diabetes has a significant impact on many different aspects of a child’s life, and your donation can directly impact families navigating a type one diabetes diagnosis.

About the Tour de T1D

In 2016, then 14-year-old Lukas Goudie was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Lukas’ parents Darlene and Richard, both physicians in Barrie, understood the medical issues associated with this diagnosis, however, they underestimated the daily, non-stop commitment and attention this condition demands. Their efforts are an illustration of their desire to support other families and patients who are diagnosed with this complex and very challenging disease.

In 2018, their passion for cycling and their desire to raise awareness/funds to improve the lives of youth living with T1D were combined and evolved into the Tour de T1D: Ontario’s only large-scale outdoor cycling event associated with Type 1 Diabetes.
