The Need for Equipment

Medical technology is essential for great healthcare.

Virtually every aspect of treatment requires innovation – and all technology requires updating as new advancements are discovered. When it comes to our health we should expect the best tools in the best hands. The equipment we have influences our ability to attract specialists which impacts the programs we provide.

Like your car or your television, most medical equipment has a seven to ten year life span. RVH consistently plans ahead to ensure we are ready to replace equipment as we need it. An important part of planning is ensuring we have the money ready to remain current. We need your support to purchase medical equipment which is 100 per cent funded by the community.

A proven track record

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre has a history of providing some of the most advanced healthcare in Ontario. Our donors know that when it comes to return on investment, their gifts really are putting the best tools in the best hands! Our history of innovation includes:

Cancer patients throughout Simcoe Muskoka benefitted from increased patient safety and quality as RVH became the first hospital in Canada to purchase the Robotic Intravenous Automation System, better known as RIVA.
RIVA ensures a high standard of safety and accuracy is maintained in all the chemotherapy doses prepared for patients, while at the same time, significantly reducing the risk of exposure to the hazardous drugs and repetitive stress injuries for our pharmacy technicians. We were thrilled to be the first site in Canada to work with the RIVA robot.

Temporary radiation treatment clinic

In 2008, the hospital made history when it was the first Canadian facility to open a temporary radiation treatment clinic. The single radiation machine facility began treating patients with breast, prostate and gastro-intestinal cancer on April 1, 2008. The facility allowed RVH the opportunity to build its cancer program and ensured that hospital personnel were ready to receive the first patient when the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre officially opened its doors.

Interventional Radiology

Interventional Radiology utilizes minimally invasive image-guided procedures to diagnose and treat diseases in nearly every organ system. The concept behind interventional radiology is to diagnose and treat patients using the least invasive techniques currently available in order to minimize risk to the patient and improve health outcomes.

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre has some of the most advanced Interventional Radiology equipment in the world thanks to the support of our donors!

Your support is essential

Our exciting expansion has given us a solid foundation to grow needed programs.
Community support determines the scope and quality of care at RVH. By building and opening the expansion at RVH, on time and on budget, we demonstrated our ability to address the next areas of need. RVH meets community needs by anticipating and strategically planning for the future.

Our recent accomplishments are the community’s accomplishments. You have helped us save the heart attack patient, help the teen in a mental health crisis, operate on the mother with ovarian cancer and ensure physicians have the latest technology.

Having the right tools in the right  hands is essential to providing the best possible healthcare for the people of our region. Your support is essential to this vision and to patient care.
