McHappy Day at Barrie McDonald’s restaurants is an opportunity for you and your family to support RVH’s tiniest patients.

Since 1977, McDonald’s Restaurants across Canada have held an annual celebration of giving called McHappy Day. This event is a much anticipated tradition and raises funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada and other children’s charities. Locally, RVH is grateful to the teams at McDonald’s Restaurants in Barrie who have been supporting patient care for the last eight years by donating a portion of the funds from McHappy Day to the RVH Simcoe Muskoka Regional Child and Youth Mental Health program, and most recently, the RVH Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This year, when you support McHappy Day, you will once again be helping our tiniest patients receive exceptional care in the NICU.

Did you know that over 2,000 babies are born at RVH every year? One in seven of those babies will require specialized care in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Right now, each baby has only 35 square feet each for their incubator, equipment and space for family – that is smaller than most closets. The space does not meet the requirements for the level of critical care we are able to deliver. Most importantly, we need to provide space conducive to the most vital medicine – a loving touch.

With your support, the NICU will go from one common room to separate private care rooms for each sick baby, their family, and space for their medical equipment. These rooms will allow the entire family to bond, spend time as a family and engage in their babies’ care.

We encourage you and your family to choose McDonald’s on Wednesday, September 22 as a portion of proceeds from every item on the menu will be donated back to support RVH’s NICU and Ronald McDonald House Toronto.
